Characterizing Biaxially Stretched Polypropylene / Graphene Nanoplatelet Composites

In this work, polypropylene (PP) nanocomposites containing different weight concentration of graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) were prepared by melt-mixing using an industrial-scale, co-rotating, intermeshing, twin-screw extruder. The materials then compression moulded into sheets, and biaxially stretched at stretching ratios (SRs) below the PP melting temperature. effects GNP content biaxial on bulk properties unfilled PP/GNP have been investigated in details. Results show that addition (>5wt%) can lead to electrically conductive composites due formation percolation network. led increased polymer crystallinity enhanced stiffness strength. Biaxial process further enhances mechanical but has slightly decreased electrical conductivity. also processed 3D demonstrator parts vacuum forming, which comparable with composites.
